Netflix’s ‘One Piece’ co-showrunner breaks silence on Loguetown arc

Netflix’s One Piece covers all of the East Blue arcs except the Loguetown arc. Co-showrunner Matt Owens said of the film:

Netflix’s live-action version of One Piece depicts the first story in the series. However, it does not include the Loguetown arc, which is supposed to be the most important arc of the saga. The Straw Hat Pirates visit the town where the Pirate King was born and executed.

For this reason, it is also called the “city of beginnings and endings.” Luffy and his crew stop briefly to gather supplies before departing for the Grand Line. They encounter a powerful enemy that appears at the end of the first season.

The Loguetown arc is not covered in the first season, leading many to believe that Netflix’s One Piece is skipping that part entirely. So co-showrunner Matt Owens addressed the confusion surrounding it.

Last weekend, Matt Owens held an AMA on Reddit and was flooded with questions from fans. When a netizen asked about One Piece’s handling of the Loguetown arc, Owens said the show would not shorten the story.

He explained: I never have! It was not included in season 1 due to the reduced number of episodes. And trying to cram it in won’t help the work or the stories that have to share the space. Rouge Town is not “cut”. We just haven’t gotten there yet. ”

This means that the second season will likely begin with the final chapter of the East Blue Saga before moving on to the Alabasta Saga. During the official announcement of Netflix’s One Piece season 2, Eiichiro Oda had already hinted at the introduction of Chopper, the crew’s doctor, which will take place in the second saga.

After the WGA strike was lifted last week, the writers’ room is back to normal as scripts are currently being prepared. Last week, Matt Owens shared an update on One Piece Season 2 in an interview with Deadline.

He said: “Prior to the strike, we had a little bit of a writer’s room up and running for Season 2. We started planning what this season would be and completed some outlines. That’s all there is to it.”

“So the scripts for the season aren’t actually finished yet. It’s still going to take some time. The writers’ room is up and running and we can get to work on design work, scheduling, pre-production, etc. I’m finishing up the script.”
