Simu Liu ruptured his Achilles tendon while performing “I Just Kane” at the Oscars

Simu Liu said he danced through the pain during Ryan Gosling’s performance of “I’m Just Ken” at the 2024 Academy Awards.

The actor revealed on Instagram in October that he tore his Achilles tendon during a “friends sports weekend” and was using crutches at the time. According to the Mayo Clinic, it can take up to six months to return to normal activity after an injury, and sometimes longer.
He later elaborated the people magazine what led to the injury, saying he invited 20 of his closest friends to Miami to participate in an “Olympic-style sporting tournament.” Once they got to the basketball game, things took a turn for the worse.
“Suddenly I feel like someone shot me or kicked my legs out from under me or just beat me,” he told the outlet. “I’m like, ‘Who hit me?’ “Everyone looks at me and says, ‘Dude, no one hit you.’” And at that moment I knew I had torn my Achilles tendon, and I went to urgent care immediately.
Throughout awards season, Leo was seen on red carpets with a brace on his leg. But he admitted it was still worth it for the chance to join the “I’m Just Ken” Oscars show.
“It was a great way to wrap up the whole experience for us,” he added.
