Pippa director Raja Menon believes it is easier to make a patriotic film. When making the 1971 India-Pakistan war drama, he says he was lucky to have a team that could stick to his guns. Ishaan Khatter plays Captain Balram Singh Mehta in Pippa.

“It’s easier to make a movie that’s bombastic and chauvinistic and says, ‘We’re going to kill everyone,’ we’re going to behead people,” he said. We were lucky that all the people who were a part of it agreed that it wasn’t the movie we were trying to make and we managed to get it done,” the director said in an interview with PTI.

Touted as a heroic tank battle, Pippa depicts the courage of Brigadier General Balram Singh Mehta, played by Ishaan Khatter, a veteran of the 45 Cavalry Tank Company who fought alongside his brothers on the Eastern Front during the 1971 war. It revolves around the center.

“We’re trying to tell real stories. Movies cost a lot of money, but people tend to take the easiest path, especially when it comes to making big movies. I was fortunate to have people around me who helped me not choose that path and stick to my beliefs,” the coach added.

Raja hopes that watching the true stories of war films will be enjoyable for the audience. “I hope this (movie) resonates. People like different things, and I think people respond to that in some way. I don’t want to be ignored, and even if I’m hated, I don’t want to be loved. I don’t even care, but I think about what I want to do.” If contempt is ignored, then what are we doing?

Ishaan, who plays Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta, said Pippa shows a journey of justice without any “outward bravado”. “It was more about the human journey, and it was very compelling. It’s something we don’t get to see very often. Their justice and determination, their belief that they’re fighting for what’s right. , they fought.” The emotion is so strong and unique that it is different from “Hun jaa kar tabahe macha denge (We will create chaos)”… Performed as a young actor “It was a very beautiful sentiment and I hope people understand that,” he said.

The 28-year-old actor said playing an age-appropriate role in a war film like Pippa was a “rare” opportunity for a young actor like him. “I’m lucky to have this opportunity because he (Raja) cast me, and because of that, I’m going to see a completely different war movie, a bit more authentic. Combat. “I was 26 when we were filming “So he (the character) was 26 and I was 26 and it was a beautiful accident,” he said.

Pippa, which also stars Mrunal Thakur and Priyanshu Panuri, will start streaming on Prime Video from November 10. Mrunal, best known for films like ‘Love Sonia’, ‘Super 30, Jersey’, said he was looking forward to the premiere of ‘Pippa’ ahead of Diwali.

“I am happy that the films we shot and believed in wholeheartedly will be released at the perfect timing of Diwali. Three of my films, ‘Toofaan’, ‘Sita Ramam’ and ‘Pippa’, will be released on Amazon Prime I feel very happy to have it released,” she said.

Mr. Raja said the film, which was completed last year, was worth the wait. “It’s exciting. I don’t think there’s any sense of relief. Relief means that at some point you lost hope. We knew things were going to be difficult, we knew the environment (for a theatrical release) was going to be difficult. But , we believed in the film we had made, so we decided to wait until the right time came.”

Pippa is supported by producers Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur.
