Review of The Poachers Web Series by Alia Bhatt, Roshan Mathew and Dibyendu Bhattacharya

Starring: Nimisha Sajayani, Ankit Madhavi, Roshan Mathew and Dibyendu Bhattacharya

Director: Richie Mehta

Language: Hindi

“No animals were harmed in the making of the movie/series” is a disclaimer we often see when watching content at home or in theaters. For Amazon Prime Video IN’s latest offering, titled Poacher , which appears to be an unconventional and uncomfortable take on human-animal conflict, a disclaimer must remain on the screen at all times. Director Richie Mehta takes on the mammoth task of setting his series in a jungle where lawlessness prevails and rules are broken by violence.

The camera zooms in on both the hunter and the hunted with care and caution, and you are undeniably sympathetic to the animals. Dibyendu Bhattacharya is impressively reserved and possesses a magnetic aura. There’s a certain feeling that fills an already atmospheric show room about an issue that’s only been made public on social media.

Many blood boils when we read about the disgusting cases of hunting and killing of animals by poachers. But the show dares to show the human side of these creatures as well. What makes them or makes them silence animals for life? Is it their impoverished livelihood or just a kick or an adrenaline rush to conquer the dumb? There is chaos and confusion around the jungle and the world as cases mount and pressure is high.

It’s a rare example of being uncomfortable, but also anchoring yourself in a compelling narrative. The conflict can send chills down your spine and the scenes are shot with precision. In an exclusive interview with Firstpost, creator Richie Mehta said that no real animal was hired for the show and the only real creatures you see are ants. And yet, the fictional beasts fill your heart with emotion as they are destroyed one after another.

Intention alone is sometimes not enough, but poacher It takes the right intention and gives it the right execution. It makes you want to hide your face and still see what happens next.
