‘Farzi’ web series inspired duo arrested for printing and circulating fake currency in Hyderabad

Two persons were arrested and remanded in judicial custody in Hyderabad on Saturday after the Telangana police busted a fake currency racket inspired by the web series ‘Farzi’. The accused are Vanam Laxminarayan, a computer science graduate and real estate agent, and his friend Erukala Pranai Kumar, who works for a private firm, the Times of India reported.

According to Police Inspector Anjaneylu, Praney had already circulated fake currency worth Rs. 3,00,000 a few days ago. He was arrested while trying fake money at the fruit and vegetable market. He had fake currency in GEL. 20,000 was in his possession when he was caught, ANI reported.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Laxminarain was also involved in the mortgage fraud with Kumar as his accomplice by promising a share in the profits, ANI reported.

Allapur police station police inspector Anjaneyulu said Laxminarayana, who was earlier involved in the gold scam case, was the prime accused. He was the mastermind behind the plan and decided to print the fake notes and distribute them in the market after being inspired by the ‘Farzi’ web series.

The Telangana police seized 810 fake Rs 500 notes from Laxminarain’s possession, which he was planning to sell in the market. Besides, the police seized other items like a printer and a scanner used by the duo to print the fake notes.

Laxminarayan, the prime accused, allegedly used green foil paper, JK Excel bond papers, a screen printer, a laminating machine and a cutter to execute his plan, Inspector Anjaneyulu said. The duo planned to circulate the currency at a ratio of 1:3 to the original currency, the Times of India reported.
