Many conversations online are directed at “Disney adults” – Disney park guests without children who are passionate about the happiest, most magical place on earth. But this week, social media’s focus shifted after several guests revealed a disturbing trend. That’s when parents leave their children in hotel rooms at Disney resorts to enjoy the theme parks.

It started when Reddit user u/tonysnark81 recalled being woken up in the early hours of the morning by the sound of a child screaming at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel.

“There was a kid in the room next to us who was really screaming and we ended up having to go to the front desk. No. Stop. Screaming!” one guest wrote. The parents reportedly left the crying child in the room and went to have breakfast…I believe they were taken from the hotel.”

Shockingly, it wasn’t an isolated incident at the Disneyland Resort.

“I overheard a Craftsman couple leaving their two children, ages 5 and 7, upstairs and saying, “I better not peek,” and they were drunk at a bar. ” said u/teacup19551964. “Dad laughed, and it sounded like an evil villain giggling, and he really thought he was funny too. Should I take my kids to Disney and lock them in their rooms…?!”

The same thing happens at Walt Disney World Resort.

“This happened at Animal Kingdom Lodge at Walt Disney World,” Armchair Neckbeard replied. “The people next to us left their kids in their rooms all day to go to the park, and the kids wouldn’t stop crying… We reported it to the front desk, and when the guests returned to their rooms, security I heard you arguing with a staff member.”

Disney park fans were stunned.

“If I had known that his parents had left him in a strange place to go get an omelet, I would have called the police myself,” wrote u/Tiki-Jedi.

“This is one of the saddest things I’ve ever heard,” said u/hokaycomputer. “My heart is breaking.”

Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort have not taken an official position on leaving children alone in resort hotel rooms. However, some Disney resort hotels offer child care for children up to age 12. Third-party babysitting services are also available at Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park, Downtown Disney, Magic Kingdom Park, Epcot, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom for parents who want some alone time. , Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or Disney Springs.

In 2009, a Plan Disney representative said, “There is no official policy regarding when children may be left alone in a hotel room or anywhere on property.” wrote the person in charge in 2009. Many factors need to be considered when deciding whether to leave children alone. These include the maturity of the children, their comfort with being left in an unfamiliar place, the location of their rooms, where they are, how long they are out, and the quality of their cells. Telephone reception, etc. ”
