Representatives of the striking SAG-AFTRA actors union and major movie studios met for the fourth time in eight days on Monday, October 9, but were unable to reach an agreement on a new contract, the union said. Announced.

Negotiations will resume Wednesday, with each party expected to negotiate independently on Tuesday, the union said.

Representatives from the Screen Actors Guild, American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and the Motion Picture and Television Producers Federation also met last Monday, Wednesday and Friday, marking the first time the two sides held talks since the strike began on July 14.

SAG-AFTRA’s demands include general wage increases, protections against the use of actor images by artificial intelligence, increased compensation for successful streaming shows, and improved health and retirement benefits.

The talks scheduled for Monday came the day that Writers Guild of America members overwhelmingly ratified a tentative collective bargaining agreement, ending a nearly five-month writers’ strike.

Of those who voted in the ratification vote that began last Monday, 99% voted in favor of the new agreement, WGA leaders wrote in a message to members. According to the message, there were 8,525 votes, 8,435 in favor, and only 90 no votes.

The new agreement will be valid until May 1, 2026.

However, both the WGA East and West Branch boards supported the interim agreement, and ratification was expected.

Resolving the actors’ strike is the final hurdle to restarting the film and television industry. Hollywood has been virtually paralyzed since writers went on strike on May 2nd and actors went on strike on July 14th over many of the same issues.
