Why Sharon Stone chose motherhood over Hollywood

By Movieguide® Contributor

Actress Sharon Stone recently opened up about why she chose motherhood over a career in Hollywood.

“I’m grateful that I chose motherhood as a healthy approach to my life and didn’t prioritize Hollywood,” she told People. [Hollywood] They certainly didn’t prioritize me. ”

“I’m grateful I chose what I did,” she added, speaking of her adopted children Lorne, 23, Laird, 18, and Quinn, 17.

“I found out I was going to become a parent the day after I lost my child,” Stone previously told British Vogue.

The actress had experienced multiple miscarriages. After being discharged from the hospital after her last attempt at a natural birth, she received a call from her adoption attorney.

“I felt as if God was throwing me a life raft,” she wrote. “Six weeks later, we heard on the phone that our son, Lorne, was born under the terms of a private adoption. From the moment I held him, I was in awe.”

Stone suffered a brain injury in 2001 that gave her a 1% chance to live and ended her acting career. Although she miraculously recovered, her producers were reluctant to cast her in any projects due to her “stammer” and her memory loss.

“I lost everything,” she said. “I lost all my money. I lost custody of my children. I lost my career. I lost everything that you feel is your real identity and life.”

“We never really got much of it back,” she continued. “But I’ve gotten to a point where I’m okay with it and really realize that I’m enough.”

Stone has since recovered and pursued a career as an actress, but is now less interested in being a celebrity. She uses her platform to raise awareness and encourage people living with neurological disorders.

Dr. Michael Lawton, who saved Stone’s life, said: “She is an inspiration to people suffering from neurological conditions.”

“I appreciate the wisdom that comes with age,” Stone said. “I am grateful for everything my life has given me, both the good times and the bad. I am especially grateful for the love and light that my children have brought into my life.”

Stone, a Hollywood veteran, said different beliefs and experiences should be celebrated, not destroyed.

The 63-year-old actress appeared on SiriusXM’s “JUST JENNY” with host Jenny Hutt.

“I think cancel culture is the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen,” Stone said of people being afraid to voice their opinions. “I think when people say things that make them feel uncomfortable and feel their emotions and meaning, it’s a great opportunity for everyone to learn and grow and understand each other.”
