Rain Pryor is set to blend Nollywood and Hollywood in a new movie
Hollywood Actress and entrepreneur Rain Pryor has announced her plans to launch a multi-million dollar film project in collaboration with Nigerian producers. She made this statement during her recent visit to Nigeria.
Pryor, who is the daughter of the late Hollywood actor and comedian Richard Pryor, also revealed her happiness at the appearance of the famous actor, Odunlade Adekola, as the lead actor in the film, who is a mixture of Western and African cultures.
According to the 54-year-old, she had watched Odunlade act in many films and it was his ability to play diverse roles that attracted her.
She said in a statement sent to Sunday Scoop“I’m a Nollywood fan, so in the last year and a half, Nollywood has flooded the US through Netflix and other streaming platforms. I’ve watched King of Boys, Jagun Jagun and other titles and I’ve seen Odunlade and his range of abilities and what he can do. My observation is that he has what it takes to be Oba Fagbemi’s character in The next movie and that’s why we chose it.
On the project, Pryor is the director and executive producer while Paula Ata and Czech Novia are the executive producers.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the film project, Pryor said: “What prompted the story is my family. I have a family that is rich in tradition and culture, and when I traveled to Nigeria to learn about Yoruba culture, especially Ifa culture, I thought how could I bring together Nigerian and black Americans to create something that was a combination of Hollywood and Nollywood.
“My father, who was a famous comedian and actor, made profound changes in his life when he came to the African continent and felt like he had found his soul and soul, and here I am doing the same and finding my place.”
The film will be filmed in Osun, Lagos, and Maryland states in the United States of America. Atta and Novia revealed that the film project is in the pre-production stages and filming will begin in 2024.
The film, which will be released in 2025, also aims to promote tourism and cultural exchange between Nigeria and the United States of America. Furthermore, it focuses on the history and culture of African Americans and Africans around the world, tracing their roots back to Nigeria.
