Henry Cavill says he’s ‘not a fan’ of sex scenes – The Hollywood Reporter

Henry Cavill is speaking out about filming intimate scenes in movies and TV shows, and he’s frankly “not a fan” of them.

the Argyle The star recently appeared on Happy, sad, confused podcast with director Matthew Vaughn and admitted that he feels those vulnerable on-screen moments should be left to the “human imagination.”

“I don’t get them, I’m not a fan,” Cavill expressed of the sex scenes. “I think there are circumstances where a sex scene is good for a film, not just for the audience, but I think sometimes it’s overused these days.”

the magician The actor continued, “When you have a sense of where you’re going, is that really necessary or is it just people wearing less clothing?” That’s when you start to feel more uncomfortable and think, “There’s no performance here, there’s no piece that’s going to carry over into the rest of the movie.”

Although Cavill noted that there are times “when sex scenes can be great in a movie and can really help tell the story,” he’s not convinced they’re used very often in projects currently.

“More often than not the human imagination will get the better of him,” Enola Holmes Star added. “So it can be a bit of a cop out if it’s a TV show or movie full of rotating bodies and you’re like, ‘OK, but what does this do for us apart from the idea of, ‘Oh, you naked person, great.'”

Vaughn also shared a similar viewpoint when it came to filming intimate scenes.

“The thing I don’t really understand — and you’ve noticed I don’t really direct them because I can’t understand them — (is) the sex scenes,” he said. “It’s just something I don’t understand.”

The actor and director are not the only Hollywood notables who prefer to abandon or limit the sex scenes they participate in on screen.

Penn Badgley revealed last year that he asked You showrunner Sera Gamble if they could cut back on the intimacy in season 4 of the Netflix show. Although his comments sparked some controversy online, he later clarified his stance.

“What I was talking about was not actually the final product,” he said. GQ on time. “It was like an ingrained culture in the production of all films but especially those scenes. It’s as if we know that Hollywood has a history of blatant exploitation and abuse.

Cavill’s last movie, Argylewhich sees him play a secret agent on a mission to expose a global spy syndicate, is currently showing in theaters.
