But what awaits us in theatre’s second century, which officially begins in 2022?

A new chapter began just two years before that anniversary when Netflix purchased the theater in 2020.

The entertainment company quickly launched a multi-year renovation of the space in partnership with American Cinematheque, the acclaimed organization behind much of the programming shown at The Egyptian in recent years.

These extensive updates, which brought back much of the theater’s old charm while adding the latest technology, were completed in 2023. As of November 9, the Egyptian Theater is open to the public again.

“The grand reopening comes three years after Netflix and American Cinematheque partnered to restore the iconic theater, famous for its modern Egyptian architecture and open-air courtyard surrounded by towering columns, colorful hieroglyphs and sphinxes,” the theater said in a statement. location.
