Indian food and film festival to be held in Chattogram

The Assistant High Commissioner of India in Chattogram hosted a vibrant Indian food and film festival at the Drama Institute on Saturday, November 18th, drawing a diverse crowd of Bangladeshi and Indian community members. Filled with grandeur and enthusiasm, the festival showcased a stunning fusion of Indian cuisine and cinematic artistry.

The highlight of the event was the Hindustani classical music program by Sadharan Uchanga Sangeet Parishad of Bangladesh, which added a soulful touch to the cultural extravaganza. Professor Anupam Sen, eminent sociologist and Vice Chancellor of Premier University graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his address, he praised India’s global leadership, saying, “The world looks to India to solve global problems.” Dr. Sen also reflected on India’s rich civilizational spirit and emphasized values ​​such as coexistence and unity amidst diversity. He pointed out that the Rig Veda may be the world’s oldest religious text.

In his welcome address, Dr. Rajeev Ranjan, Assistant High Commissioner, highlighted the effectiveness of Indian food and cinema as powerful tools in India’s external engagement. He expressed pride in the common cultural heritage shared by India and Bangladesh and emphasized the deep connections through history, cultural heritage and mutual affinity for music, literature and art.

The festival showcased delicious cuisine from prominent Chattogram hotels and restaurants such as Peninsula, Well Park, Well Food, Barcode, Tava, Bonjour, Handi and more. These establishments offered a diverse range of cuisines, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian, showcasing the rich tapestry of Indian flavours.

Adding to the movie experience, two moving biopics were screened during the festival: ‘Moner Manush’ in Bengali and ‘Super30’ in Hindi. The audience was treated to a compelling story that captivated hearts and minds.

Part Indian food and part film festival, the festival proved to be a cultural extravaganza that fostered friendship and appreciation for the shared heritage of India and Bangladesh. The event successfully showcased India’s soft power through delicious food and cinematic storytelling.
