Double Tucker Movie Review: A Roller Coaster of Animation and Comedy

Every year, as the summer holidays approach, movie theaters around the world release a plethora of films aimed at young people, and this year, “Double Tucker” will be released again. The film, which marks Meera Mahdi’s directorial debut, is backed by Artflix and stars Dheeraj, Smriti Venkat, Kovai Sarala, MS Bhaskar, Kali Venkat, Muneeskanth, Mansoor Ali Khan, Shah Rao , will hit the screens with an ensemble cast including Sunil Reddy and Karunakaran. Vidya Sagar’s songs set the backdrop for this unique story.

The story begins with a heavy tragedy as the life of the protagonist Aravind (Dheeraj) changes dramatically after a devastating accident that takes the lives of his parents. Physically and mentally scarred, Aravind grapples with his self-image issues and falls into a life of solitude throughout his childhood. However, his troubles do not end there; more misfortune and humiliation await him, and viewers are left hoping for a ray of hope amidst the chaos.

At the heart of the story is a capricious twist of fate, orchestrated by two animated characters from the divine world, Left and Right, that prematurely removes Aravind from the mortal world. As the plot unfolds, we witness a series of accidents and mayhem, disrupting multiple lives and setting the stage for a roller coaster of events.

‘Double Tucker’ is much better due to its quirky concept and interesting premise which was seen in Rajinikanth’s ‘Athisaya Piravi’. However, after a risqué start, it loses its comical momentum. Despite injecting explosive energy into its storyline, Left and Right serves to push back from its momentum an all-too-natural, spontaneous sense of humor, and as a result feels too forced. This will give an unnatural impression. Additionally, his barrage of pop culture references, while initially quite funny, stop being funny at a certain point.

Still, there are plenty of moments of joy throughout the film, especially watching Left and Right become iconic characters in the film in animation, which has audiences applauding from their socially distanced movie theater seats. The 3D animation by Symbiosis Technologies is just a bonus.

‘Double Tucker’, featuring Vidyasagar’s brilliant score and standout voices left and right by Kali Venkat and Muneeskanth, had few low points but could have been entertaining on its own. However, the film relies too much on slapstick comedy and fails to fully utilize the potential of its excellent premise.

Overall, Double Tucker may leave some of its targeted younger audience smiling, but in some ways it falls short of leaving the theater having had a truly memorable time. . However, for all its flaws, there are hints of fun in it, making it a great watch if you’re looking for a night of light film.

verdict: “Double Tucker” offers a quirky blend of comedy and chaos, including homages to anime characters and pop culture, but falls just short of delivering consistent laughs.
