Diljit has always been aware of fashion, but he said he was not a fan of the style of past Sikh actors in Bollywood. In a conversation with Anubhav Bassi on Netflix India during the promotions of his film Amar Singh Chamkila, Diljit spoke about what inspired him to focus on his fashion game.

Although Diljit has always had an appreciation for fashion, he expressed his disapproval of the way Bollywood has historically dressed Sikh actors. During the promotions of his own film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, Diljit spoke with Netflix India’s Anubhav Bassi about what inspired him to focus on his game of fashion.


“To be honest, I don’t like clothes or swag. When we were in Punjab, the Bollywood movies that were made at that time… Sikhs weren’t portrayed properly. So I started watching Bollywood movies… I decided to dress better than the stylists in Bollywood when I appear in “I Know Fashion,” Diljit shared. The singer revealed that Punjabi street fashion follows all international styles and is very global.


“The fashion that is popular in New York comes directly to Punjabi because there is a connection. So I always thought that if I go to Bollywood, I will show them that they portray people incorrectly. . We are not,” Diljit said. Additionally, the actor emphasized that buying expensive clothes is not the same as buying trendy clothes. He said that while he likes to lounge around in shorts when he’s at home, he makes sure to dress appropriately when he steps out of the house.
