Did you know that Dileep’s ‘Punjabi House’ sequel never happened because of this Bollywood film?

At a promotional event for ‘The Voice of Satyanathan’, director Rafi Mekaltin revealed that the first draft of ‘Punjab House’ was the concept for the film.
The popular Malayalam comedy entertainer ‘Punjabi House’ has established itself as a milestone in the industry and the audience is eagerly awaiting the possibility of a sequel. However, it has been revealed that the long-awaited sequel was shelved due to unexpected similarities with the 2015 Bollywood film Shamitabh.

During a promotional event for ‘The Voice of Satyanathan’, director Rafi Mekaltin revealed that the initial script for the ‘Punjabi House’ sequel was similar to ‘Shamitabh’ starring Dhanush and Amitabh Bachchan. . The original concept for the sequel was that the character of Unni, played by Dileep in the first film, had a son who was mute. This son, interestingly, imitates his father’s voice while singing on a small TV channel.

The director found this concept appealing and drew clever parallels with the first film, where Unni pretended to be mute. However, Raffi Mekaltin noticed the striking similarities between the two plots and decided to shelve plans for a sequel. Directed by R. Balki, ‘Shamitabh’ revolves around an aspiring actor with a speech impediment who teams up with a man with a powerful voice.

Meanwhile, Dileep and Rafi Mekatin collaborated in the recently released comedy entertainer ‘Voice of Sathyanathan’. Although the film received mixed reviews from the audience, ‘Voice of Satyanathan’ generated good numbers at the box office.
