Tabu, Kareena Kapoor and Kriti Sanon starrer Crew completely defies stereotypes. To be honest, it’s been a roller coaster ride. Geeta Sethi, played by Tabu, Jasmin Bajwa, played by Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Divya Rana, played by Kriti Sanon, are members of the flight crew working at Kohinoor Airlines. The airline functions as a thinly veiled version of the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines. The chairman of Kohinoor Airlines, played by Saswata Chatterjee, is clearly modeled on the notorious billionaire Vijay Mallya, known for his escapades. The film’s screenwriters, Nidhi Mehra and Mehul Suri, did not hide this relationship, naming the character as Vijay Walia, absconding, declaring bankruptcy and leaving thousands of employees stranded. Director Rajesh Krishnan has woven a comedy that celebrates the power of women. It will make you reflect while having fun. Geeta, Jasmine, and Divya here are not one-dimensional but multifaceted, grappling with the same life and career curveballs as the women around you. They are best friends for life and rely on each other for emotional support and more. They need a man, but they also value the bond they share as friends. Friendships across ages are free from criticism and forgive everything. They know their weaknesses, but they know their strengths as well. It’s fun to peek into their charming banter. Their conversation is not pompous, but actually makes her feel like she is listening to three women speak their minds.

The film has a nice, breezy first half that moves along without any turbulence. The second half was hit by unstable weather and the landing was a little shaky, but we still managed to land the plane and provide an enjoyable ride in the process. It’s not exactly a heist movie. This is a movie about female friendship and tackling life head on. The friendship between the three stars is extraordinary. There were no egos on set, and it was clear that the three of them truly enjoyed their work together. Karina makes the most of her comedic talent and creates maximum laughter with her expressions and one-liners. Tabu is better at her emotional ups and downs in her films than other actors, and she navigates her films like the seasoned actor she is. Her scenes with Kapil Sharma feel like a peek into an average middle-class, middle-aged couple. They don’t have much, but they have love and that’s enough. Kriti Sanon has worked with some heavy hitters, but she hasn’t given in to the company. She shines in front of her senior actors and plays them well, bringing her A-game to the film in the process. Her romantic scenes with Diljit are brief but sparkling.

Be it Diljit Dosanjh, Kapil Sharma, Rajesh Sharma or Saswata Chatterjee, the men who appear in films know that at one time or another they are not in the limelight. Bravely taking a step back. Indeed, there is no doubt that we need more stable male co-stars like that.
