Can Hanuman accomplish what Adipurush could not?

In 2022, two South Indian films featuring characters unfamiliar to North Indian audiences, Kantara and Kartikeya 2, became unexpected blockbusters. Despite their slow start, these films surprised the industry with their phenomenal success.

‘Karthikeya 2’ initially made modest first day earnings of Rs 700,000 in Hindi, but due to strong word-of-mouth, it eventually grossed over Rs 300,000,000 in net collection, making it a phenomenal success in the Hindi market. It was a success.

Similarly, ‘Kantara’ started with a modest opening of 2.5 crores in Hindi but eventually crossed the 100-crore mark by the end of its run.

Films with spiritual or devotional themes that celebrate Hindu culture and Sanatana Dharma are gaining immense popularity in the Hindi market. This is why everyone thought Adipurush could collect 2000 crores, but the director ruined it with cartoonish and poor direction.

While Bollywood rarely makes such films, there are high hopes for a southern film that introduces Hindu deities and Sanatan Sanskrit.

Now, Prasanth Varma’s ‘Hanuman’ seems all set to capitalize on this trend. If Lord Hanu Man’s portrayal and engaging storyline resonates with audiences, ‘Hanu Man’ has the potential to replicate the success of these two of his films in North Korea.

Hanuman focuses on spiritual values and tells the story of the fictional village ‘Anjanadri’ and its superheroes. If Varma successfully captures the essence of Lord Hanu Man, the film has the potential to be another triumph for Telugu cinema in the Hindi-speaking world.
