Bollywood returns to J&K: Over 300 film permits granted in last 3 years

Jammu and Kashmir has seen a resurgence in Bollywood film shooting activity in recent years, with the government issuing more than 300 film permits in the past three years.

This represents a major turnaround for the region, which previously faced challenges due to security concerns.

The return of Bollywood is being seen as a positive development as it is expected to boost tourism, create employment opportunities and introduce the beautiful landscapes of Jammu and Kashmir to a wider audience.

From snow-capped mountains to lush valleys and serene lakes, the region’s diverse landscapes offer filmmakers plenty of filming locations.

Although the resurgence of filmmaking is welcome, challenges remain. Security concerns remain, and filmmakers must strike a delicate balance between artistic expression and consideration for local populations.

The Jammu and Kashmir government is working closely with the filmmakers to ensure a safe and suitable environment for filming.

Bollywood’s return to Jammu and Kashmir follows a rich history of filming in the region, including recent films such as ‘The Kashmir Files’, the love story ‘The Notebook’ and the cross-border drama ‘Raazi’ , Article 370 (2024),” an emotional journey in “Hamid,” a love story amid conflict in “Shikara,” and a military action film, “Uri: The Surgical Strike.”
